Guests will discuss recent progress on advancing Indigenous-led stewardship in Canada’s boreal forest. They will discuss the expansion of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas, focusing on Eeyou Istchee in Quebec, and the development of a coast-to-coast network of Indigenous Guardians and the critical role they play in protecting carbon stores and biodiversity. The guests will also highlight barriers to growing these programs and how policymakers can position Indigenous-led protection at the center of Canada’s natural climate solutions strategy.
